Alleppey Boat House: The Complete Guide to Booking & Staying

An Alleppey boat house (houseboat) is the signature way to experience Kerala's backwaters — a private floating stay that cruises the canals and lakes of Alappuzha. Here's your complete guide.

What Is an Alleppey Boat House?

A boat house is a traditional Kerala kettuvallam — a wooden boat converted into private accommodation with AC bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, a deck and a crew. "Boat house" and "houseboat" mean the same thing (see boat house vs houseboat).
